In another turbulent year for all of us working in prison law, APL has been at the forefront -representing Members’ interests at the highest levels.
As an Association, in 2025 we have already:
- Delivered high quality training
- Fought to protect access to justice and advocated for an increase in fees
- Shared resources and expertise
Looking ahead, we know there is more to do. In the coming year, the Association will continue to:
- Fight for fee increases to be implemented as quickly as possible
- Address the key issues affecting prison law practitioners and our clients
- Offer high quality training on latest legislative changes and organise knowledge-sharing opportunities. Confirmed upcoming sessions already include Managing Difficult Cases and Distressed Clients (London, 24 November 2025), Updates following the Sentencing Bill (date TBC), and our flagship conference (30 January 2026),
- Strengthen our representation and build a stronger, more supportive network for our members.
Prison law is tougher than ever – so there has never been a more important time to join or return to the APL and be part of the collective voice for prison lawyers.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:
- I am/We are in general sympathy with the objects of The Association of Prison Lawyers and wish to become a member of The Association of Prison Lawyers.
- I/We satisfy (in the case of an individual) article 4 of the Articles of Association or (in the case of an organisation) Article 5 of the Articles of Association.
- I/We agree to pay the membership fees in accordance with membership categories
- I/We agree to be bound by the Constitution of the Association of Prison Lawyers and by any Rules and Bye laws made under Constitution.
- I/We understand there is an ongoing obligation to inform APL if my/our law practice changes and I/we no longer meet the criteria for APL membership.
- By applying for Membership I/we agree to these terms.

Firm Membership entitles all fee earners access to the Member Site and the benefits of reduced prices for training events and seminars held by the APL and Member organisations.
