This seminar will comprehensively cover those issues affecting women prisoners, with an emphasis on the practical, including:

  • An overview of the women’s estate;
  • Specific policies for women prisoners;
  • Vulnerable women – Mental Health and Self harm issues;
  • Foreign National Prisoners;
  • Progressing Female Indeterminate Sentence Prisoners through the system;
  • The impact of equality legislation, Art 8 of the ECHR and children’s rights on women prisoners;
  • A review of recent JR cases affecting women prisoners.

 Speakers will include:

  • Rachel Chapman             The Association of Prison Lawyers – Consultant, specialises in representing women prisoners, especially women lifers.
  • Camilla Pandolfini          Prisoners Advice Service – runs free legal advice clinics at women’s prisons and represents women prisoners
  • Quincy Whitaker            Doughty Street Chambers – has many years experience of successfully acting for prisoners in a range of issues, and recently appeared in MP and P v Secretary of State for Justice [2012] EWHC 214 (Admin) the leading case on prisoners’ entitlement to CRL, Article 8 rights and the best interests of the child within the prison context.
